God says he will never "smite any more every thing living, as I have"

Yet, if the prophesies toward the end of the book are true, god will indeed smite "the nations" again as he did before.
However, to be fair, this time it'll be by fire
-maybe that's OK. But then why bother making the first promise? Do the smote really care whether it's by fire or water?

And he'll even allow the survivors of the first wave to eat the bodies of the victims before they too are slain.
