Jesus: the early days

Jesus began ministry after john the baptist is imprisoned
- Mark 1:14,15,17

But of course, jesus began his ministry whilst john was still free
- John 1:28-29, 3:25-30

Before he could walk…

Jesus is taken to the Jerusalem temple eight days after he is born; the family then goes up to Nazareth.
- Luke 2:21-39

Right after jesus’ birth, the family flees down to Egypt and stays there until Herod dies.
Then, even upon returning, they avoid Judea and go right to Nazareth.
- Matt 2:14-23

Timing is everything

Jesus’ birth was in the time of the governor Quirinius
- Luke 2:2,3-7

Jesus’ birth was in the time of Herod
- Matt 2:1

The problem here? While Quirinius and Herod held different stations, the terms they served never coincided or overlapped.

Quirinius – became governor of Syria around 8 CE

Herod – died 4 BCE

In-descent exposure

The prophesied anointed one was to be born "of the fruit of his (david’s) loins"
- Acts 2:30

Jesus to come from david’s seed (semen)
- Romans 1:3

Jesus claims he is the root of david
- Revelation 22:16

And yet jesus was born of a virgin
(no “seed” at all- even if the myth is true it was god’s seed- not david’s)
- Matt 1:18
